I used to have a great experience with Vita Family Medicine when I was a patient of Dr. Boudreau's. The office was always professional and well-run. However, things have changed over time. At some point, the practice introduced a concierge (membership-based) model for more personalized access to Dr. Boudreau. Since I did not opt into this additional cost, I am no longer able to see her and instead am seen by the physician assistant. While the PA is fine, the overall structure of care has become frustrating. The final straw for me was the office’s policy that prevents patients from discussing any medical concerns during an annual wellness exam. So if you're at your annual wellness exam and you want to get a medication refilled, for instance, you have to schedule and pay for a completely separate appointment. My mom recently went in for an annual wellness exam, and also wanted a referral for vertigo-related physical therapy. She was told this could not be addressed during her annual wellness visit. So, we chose to switch the appointment type entirely just to discuss/possibly treat the vertigo. The PA spent time asking questions and examining my mom's ears, but that's it. We received a referral for the physical therapist, recommendation to use debrox to soften the ear wax, and recommendation to come back for an ear flush in ~1 week or so. When I asked the front desk about this, I was told this is an office policy tied to insurance billing and time constraints. Even if the issue takes only a minute or two, it still requires a separate appointment. This approach feels unnecessarily rigid and financially burdensome, especially given how expensive healthcare already is and ON TOP of the concierge model . It’s disappointing because the practice used to feel patient-centered, but now it feels overly segmented and difficult to navigate unless you’re willing to pay extra. Unfortunately, because of these changes, we will be looking for a new provider.
I have been going to Vita for over 8 years and now that they have this concierge service that we did not opt into we get terrible care now. It started with my wife not being allowed to discuss an issue during her annual exam. My annual exam did not go much better. There were some things in my blood work that need to be discussed and I have to schedule a follow up to do that. This place has become a business and not a medical practice. Everything is 100% transactional if you are not part of the concierge.
At first I didn't have any issues here and I thought I had found a doctors office that really listened to me. But then things started going down hill. For instance, when I went in for a check up and had to list any new medications, I had mentioned that I was on ADHD meds prescribed by my mental health team. Dr. Boudreau then proceeded to tell me that there's no real test for ADHD and that if Netflix had existed while she was going through med school she would be "distracted" too, as if that's all there is to ADHD. Additionally, when I told her that I thought it would be a good idea for me to go to a Neurologist because of things I noticed going on with me and also family history, she dismissed me and said that it wasn't necessary but if it would give me "ease of mind" to go ahead but she didn't think anything was wrong. Turns out I have a brain tumor. She also never put in a prescription that I need to help with my blood pressure. They also don't communicate. The PA I was seeing left between one appointment and another a month later. Did the call to tell me I'd be seeing a different doctor? No. Finally, I moved and am trying to transfer to a new doctor and my new doctor sent a request (possibly two but I'm not certain on that part) to Vita for mine and my husbands records that I signed and authorized. they never sent it and when I called a few weeks later to see what the hold up was, they informed me that they needed a form filled out by me from their office. Fine, but you never called me or informed me of this. When the request came in, why wasn't I notified about the policy? I fill it out, send it back and with a little back and forth, which was my last sent email on March 21st they still haven't sent the records. I'm not on the phone, waiting for someone to pick up as I write this, more than a month after my request to send forms. It took 20 minutes for someone to answer the phone. The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because their previous PA was great! She was the only reason we stuck around. Also, it's just an observation but if a doctor's office has as high of a turnover rate as this place does, there's probably even more problems going on.
Horrible experience with the front office. They tell me they would follow up to get my physical and a separate appointment set up, but no call back or confirmation on what I would expect that day. On the day of my physical, they tell me they can set me up the following week for that separate appointment and to go through my bloodwork. I come the following week and the appointment took 5 minutes, they made me wait in the room for 25 minutes, and they never get to my blood work results. I had to set up a follow up virtual appointment (which the front office did not properly set up) and they wanted to charge me for it with the reasoning that they did not have time last appointment to go over the blood work.... now I realize they wasted 25 minutes of my time in the second appointment to force me to set up a third appointment to charge me again (sounds like fraud/bad practice to me). Unprofessional customer service by their front desk for hanging up on me when I tell them that I wanted the third appointment cancelled and to change doctors.
